Aloha everybody. This time I want to introduce some of our newest members of the halau. Four months ago we opened our first keiki class! Heres just a few of them after class. It was such a big challenge for me in the beginning being that it was the first time teaching children of another culture. But it has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever experienced. A simple glance of our keikis smile gives me the power to continue for the rest of the week! Can’t wait to have you all see then in action!


みんなアロハ。ハーラウの新しいメンバーを紹介します。４か月前に初めてのケイキクラスをオープンしました！授業の後写真を撮ってみました。自分とは違う文化を持つ子供たちに教えるのは今回が初めてだったのですごく大きな挑戦でした。でもすごくすごくやりがいがあります。ケイキ達の笑顔で毎週レッスンを継続するパワーをもらっています！早くみんなにも見てもらいたいなあ！

The next day after getting off of Asuka we left for Niigata for “Hawaiian Festival In Niigata”. Kina and I were honored to be invited not just for a concert, but for workshops, and to Judge the Menehune Hula Competition held that day. It was a long day but filled with wonderful memories. Having to judge a competition is really hard work huh?! Seeing all the work everyone put into being on stage that day really impressed us. The level of hula that day was superb. One of the highlights of the day was the Keiki division. Never before have I smiled, cried, and laughed all within a few seconds! We had a ball. Thank you so much Niigata for always welcoming us with open arms, and hearts. Hope to see you all again very, very, soon!!

ASUKAを降りた次の日は新潟で「Hawaiian Festival In Niigata」に行って来たんだ。今回はライブだけじゃなくて、ワークショップとメネフネ・フラ・コンペティションのジャッジもやらせてもらったんです。長い１日だったけど最高に良い思い出になったよ！いやあ、しかしジャッジの仕事はすんごい大変。出場者がみんなこの日のためにすごく頑張って練習していたのがよーくわかりました。すごくレベルの高いフラでした。その中でもケイキ部門が１番のハイライトだったと思う。数秒の間にこんなに笑ったり、泣いたりしたのは初めてでした。最高だったよ！新潟のみんな、いつも歓迎してくれてありがとうね。また近いうちに会える事を楽しみにしています！！

Aloha everyone! Hisashiburi desu. Today was our first day back in the studio in two weeks. Unfortunately not for vacation, but for work. But fortunately for us it was a job that made us feel like we were on top of the world! We spent almost a week on the world renowned M.S. ASUKA! Never before have I ever felt so relaxed. We had a few classes teaching ukulele and hula then our concert on the last night, but other than that we were in the pool, spa, playing tennis or eating!
All the guest aboard were so kind and fun! We felt like we were all one big family by the end of the week. It almost brought me to tears on the last night during our concert thinking that we were gonna get off the next day.
Thank you so much ASUKA the staff and especially Tachikawa san for the experience of a lifetime!

みんなアロハ！久しぶりです。２週間ぶりの授業だね。休みの間はね、ずうっと仕事だったんだけど、ただの仕事ではなくて、最高に楽しい仕事を経験する事ができました！あの有名なASUKAに１週間近く乗りました。こんなにリラックスができたのは久しぶりです。ウクレレ教室やフラ教室も教え、最終日の夜にはコンサートもしました。でもそれ以外の時はたいてい、プールに入ってるか、スパにいるか、テニスをしているか食べていました！
お客様もみんな優しくてとても楽しかったです。最後の方ではみんな家族みたいになっていました。次の日に船から降りる事を考えると悲しくてコンサート中ちょっと泣きそうになってしまいました。

今度みんなで乗ろうね！！！

Hey everyone! Summer really comes with a bang in Japan huh. The humidity is really something. Just another characteristic you learn to deal with living here I guess. But along with summer comes a lot of fun too! Cant wait for matsuri and fireworks season to start.
Here is a picture of kina, me and tetsu playing music this past weekend. One of our closest friends, Menehune Plantation had their 20th anniversary since opening their Hawaiian goods store. Weve been supported by in countless ways since meeting about eight years ago. We were honored to be able to give back even a little through our music. MAHALO NUI!!!


こんにちは！なんか日本の夏って突然くるよね？突然暑い！！ってなるような気がします。この湿度はどうにかならないかなあ。まあ、これが日本の特徴の１つだよね。でも、夏はたくさんの楽しい事があるよね？お祭りや花火もそう。ああ、待ち遠しいなあ。
写真は演奏をしているキナと僕とTetsu。先週、僕達がとてもお世話になっていてるハワイアングッズのお店、メネフネプランテーションさんの２０周年パーティーに行ってきたんだ。もう8、9年前からずうっとお世話になっていて、昔から僕達をサポートしてくれているんだあ！音楽を通して少しでも感謝の気持ちを届ける事ができればと思って。。。。。メネフネプランテーションのみんな、本当にいつもありがとうございます＆おめでとうございます！

Last week was an amazing week! My birthday continued for an entire week! haha. I finally turned 32 yesterday but started celebrating in every class and event from a week earlier. I cannot express the love I felt throughout the week. It brought me to tears many times. I think I get more emotional as the years go on. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the love, presents, cards, cakes and food! I think I gained at least 10 pounds this week!


先週はすごい週だったよ！１週間ずうっと僕の誕生日だったんだ！笑
とうとう３２歳になったんだけど、１週間前からお祝いが始まったんだ。みんなの愛をすごく感じて何度も泣いちゃったよ。なんか年とると涙もろくなるって本当だね。みんなの愛、プレゼント、カード、ケーキや食べ物、本当に本当にありがとうね！かなり体重が増えたはず！
